COVID-19 and Wildfire: Episode 3

Jan 15, 2021 4:09:28 PM / by Chief Kim Zagaris

COVID-19 produced an unprecedented series of new issues for the fire service. Daily operations were impacted by the increasing demand for PPE on all calls, social distancing, and the additional operational difficulty from firefighters exposed or quarantined. COVID-19 is much like wildfire - it is borderless and without jurisdiction.
As we enter 2021, Western Fire Chiefs Association and Intterra teamed-up again to conclude their COVID-19 and wildfire webinar series. This final roundtable discussion focused on the issues, offer guidance and lessons learned, and provide tips for how to proceed with next fire season.

Discussion Topics Included:
  • Effect of exposed or quarantined firefighters on daily operations
  • Impact of the new vaccines
  • Lessons learned from the most damaging wildfire season to date
  • Preparing for the 2021 fire season
